Wine Description for Ambre Blanc Muscat Maceration AOC 2022 by Trapet Alsace

Character
An Orange Wine from the heart of Alsace, which deliberately takes a different path with its maceration technique than classical white wine production. The name „Ambre“ is programme: the extended skin contact maceration gives this Muscat a amber-gold colour and a structure that far exceeds expectations. With just 11.0% alcohol and a dry character, it remains light-footed and accessible – a wine that questions tradition without denying it.
Terroir & Origin
Alsace is one of France’s most diverse wine regions: protected by the Vosges to the west, the vineyard sites benefit from an exceptionally dry, continental microclimate – one of the sunniest in France. The winery Trapet Alsace, renowned for its biodynamic approach and respectful handling of terroir, brings this philosophy consistently into the cellar.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Muscat is considered one of Alsace’s most aromatically expressive grape varieties – normally vinified as a fragrant, floral white wine. Here, however, Trapet opts for maceration on the skins, which imparts tannins, depth and a distinctive texture to the wine. This method, deeply rooted in the vinification history of Georgia and Northern Italy, is experiencing a contemporary renaissance in the hands of craft-oriented winemakers like Trapet. The result is a wine with tension between its floral origins and structural complexity.
Food Pairing Recommendations
The tannin structure and aromatic depth of this Orange Wine open a broad spectrum of food partners. Recommended pairings include spicy Asian dishes, aged Munster cheese from Alsace, flammekuchen with caramelised onions or mezze platters with hummus, roasted vegetables and spiced dips. Charcuterie boards with robust, aged cured meats also harmonise excellently with its character.
