Wine Description for Chapelle 1441 rouge 2022 by Trapet Alsace

Colour & Appearance
Muted purple-red with vibrant violet reflections – a wine that already reveals its youthful freshness and Burgundian elegance in the glass.
Nose
A remarkably cool aromatic profile that immediately recalls the Burgundian roots of Domaine Trapet. Sour cherries and wild raspberries dominate, underpinned by blackcurrant and rosehip. Beneath these unfolds a fascinating tertiary layer: graphite, undergrowth, fine leather, beetroot and subtle notes of liquorice and truffle. This complexity is impressive for a wine of this vintage and price point.
Palate
On the palate, the same cool precision emerges: raspberry and cherry in perfect balance with an invigorating, almost crisp acidity. The tannin is exceptionally fine-grained and silky – here you sense the hand of a winemaker equally at home in Burgundy and Alsace. With just 12.5% alcohol, the wine remains light-footed and approachable, without sacrificing structure.
Finish
The aftertaste surprises with a saline minerality that lends the wine additional tension. The finesse and length are remarkable – a wine that demands food pairing.
Terroir & Origin
Domaine Trapet combines Alsatian winemaking tradition with the Burgundian philosophy of its sister estate in Gevrey-Chambertin. The name „Chapelle 1441“ alludes to the historical heritage of the region – this precision and finesse are the result of meticulous work in vineyard and cellar.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Pan-seared duck breast with cherry sauce, Coq au Vin, venison loin with lingonberries, aged Comté or Époisses. The wine also harmonises beautifully with tuna tataki or mushroom risotto.
Special Characteristics
An Alsatian Pinot Noir that sets Burgundian standards – at a fraction of the price. The cool style and moderate alcohol content make it an ideal food companion and proof that Alsace is capable of far more than white wines.
