Wine Description for Cuvée Marguerite VdF blanc 2024 by Matassa

Colour & Appearance
Distinctly cloudy and unfiltered, this natural wine presents itself in a luminous orange with coppery reflections – a visual statement of artisanal authenticity.
Nose
Fascinatingly complex and unconventional: the nose initially recalls an aroma-intensive IPA with Citra and Simcoe hops, alongside elderflower, grapefruit, bergamot and blackcurrant. With air contact, the wine develops remarkable depth – sea buckthorn, white tea, quince and fresh hay emerge, creating a meditative complexity.
Palate
Here the maceration time reveals itself in all its finesse: clear, fine tannins structure the wine with a phenolic character and dry mouthfeel. The texture elegantly transitions from grippy to silky-soft. The fruit recedes in favour of stony minerality and herbal notesgrass, anise, fennel. These are joined by dried apricots, kumquat peel and red apples. The vibrant acidity lends the wine, at just 10% alcohol, a juicy, saline mouth-watering dynamism – light-footed yet aromatically profound.
Finish
Distinctive and clear with lingering herbal spice and saline minerality, inviting the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyards in Roussillon are characterised by slate and marl, surrounded by wild garrigue. The radical yield of just 18 hectolitres per hectare guarantees extreme concentration and terroir expression.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A blend of 60% Muscat d’Alexandrie, 30% Muscat à petit grains and 10% Macabeu. Hand-harvested in the early morning hours in 12-kg crates, whole-bunch pressing, spontaneous fermentation in used 500-litre barrels, malolactic fermentation and one year ageing on full lees. Minimally sulphited – purist natural wine philosophy.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Fennel salad with oranges, grilled sea bass, goat’s cheese with herbs, Vietnamese summer rolls, ceviche or artichokes with vinaigrette.
Special Features
A bold, unconventional wine by Tom Lubbe that masterfully blurs the boundaries between white wine, orange wine and aromatic complexity. A must for lovers of characterful natural wines.
