Wine Description for Barolo DOCG Ravera 2020 by Vietti

Colour & Appearance
Luminous cherry-red with delicate violet reflections and a lighter rim – a classic Nebbiolo profile that prioritises elegance over power.
Nose
Surprisingly bright and delicate for a Barolo. Red currant, wild raspberry and sour cherry dominate, underpinned by barberry and currants. White pepper, a hint of allspice and juniper lend spice. Subtle Mediterranean herbs, cocoa butter and milk chocolate in the background, along with discreet notes of undergrowth and forest floor. An aromatic profile of remarkable finesse.
Palate
Silky smooth and carried by a precise acidity structure that enlivens the wine without ever becoming intrusive. The tannin is remarkably soft and refined for a Nebbiolo – here Vietti’s mastery shines through. The texture actually recalls a Burgundian Grand Cru more than a typical Barolo. Delicate and elegant, yet with grip and substance. On the finish, the fruit spectrum shifts: darker, spicier, more intense. A wine of impressive depth and length.
Finish
Long, spicy and characterised by darkening fruit. The elegance remains whilst complexity unfolds – a promise of decades of ageing potential.
Terroir & Origin
The Ravera vineyard site in Novello is considered one of the finest Barolo crus. Vietti’s 2.4 hectares at 400 metres altitude benefit from lime-rich marl soils with a west-southwest exposure. The vines, averaging 35 years old with the oldest dating from 1935, yield concentrated yet elegant grapes.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Nebbiolo, harvested in early October. Gentle pressing, three-week skin maceration in steel tanks with permanent cap punching. Malolactic fermentation and 30 months of ageing in large oak casks and barriques. Bottled unfiltered – pure authenticity.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Lamb saddle crepinettes with savoy cabbage and glazed peach, turbot fillet with poached goose egg and morels, fettuccine with white truffle and egg yolk. The wine’s elegance harmonises perfectly with refined, not overly heavy dishes.
Special Characteristics
A Barolo that unites Burgundian finesse with Piedmontese structure. Already approachable, yet with decades ahead – a wine for both the patient and the connoisseur.
