Wine Description for Barolo DOCG Brunate 2020 1500ml Magnum by Vietti
- Colour & Appearance
- Luminous cherry red with rusty reflections – classic for Nebbiolo from this privileged vineyard site.
- Nose
- A fascinating aromatic spectrum that oscillates between elegance and power. Wild strawberry, sweet cherry and redcurrant merge with beetroot and an earthy minerality. Remarkable are the almost maritime hints of wet chalk and salty liquorice, which lend the wine a mystical dimension. These are joined by After Eight chocolate, roasted coffee and Mediterranean herbs such as rosemary, sage and oregano. Floral notes and balsamic nuances of mint round off the complex bouquet.
- Palate
- Absolutely powerful – forceful yet possessed of striking elegance. The Brunate reveals itself enormously juicy with green aromas and impressive length. The tannin is perfectly integrated, opens continuously on the palate and becomes increasingly silky. The aromatic diversity of the nose is reflected here one-to-one. The wine works with constant pressure and stretches seemingly endlessly into the finish – a textbook example of the marriage of power and finesse.
- Finish
- Infinitely long, forceful and with lingering herbal and fruit aromas. The silky tannin carries through to the end.
- Terroir & Origin
- The MGA vineyard site Brunate in La Morra is among the historic crus of Barolo. The south-facing slope towards Barolo at 350 metres altitude is characterised by calcareous marl – a terroir that gives the wine its characteristic minerality and elegance. The 51-year-old vines trained in Guyot at 4,600 plants per hectare deliver concentrated yet balanced grapes.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 100% Nebbiolo, harvested on 20 September 2020. Gentle pressing, three-week fermentation in stainless steel tanks with permanent cap submersion. Maturation predominantly in large oak casks, supplemented by small barriques. Malolactic fermentation in wood. Unfiltered bottling for maximum authenticity.
- Food Pairing Recommendations
- Grilled red mullet with celeriac purée, roasted lamb shoulder with broad beans, smoked Jerusalem artichoke with Gorgonzola and walnuts, braised beef cheeks, truffle risotto or aged Parmigiano Reggiano.
- Special Features
- The magnum bottle (1500ml) guarantees optimal ageing conditions. A Barolo that is already accessible now, yet possesses enormous cellaring potential of 20+ years.
