Wine Description for Trabener Gaispfad Riesling Kabinett trocken 2024 by Weiser-Künstler

Colour & Appearance
Luminous straw yellow in the glass, clear and brilliant – a Riesling that hasn’t yet shed its youthful character.
Nose
Initially reserved, almost shy. Then a fascinating bouquet unfolds of slate stone and lemon, accentuated by mint. To this are added lime zest, grapefruit, green apple and a subtle lanolin note – classic Mosel aromatics in their purest form.
Palate
Here the true nature of this wine reveals itself: after decanting, it opens spectacularly. Dancing lightness meets stony rootedness. Bright, clear notes alternate with herbs and pronounced minerality. The taut acidity is uncompromisingly dry, leaving no room for sweetness. At just 10% alcohol, this Kabinett impresses with remarkable power, precision and structure – a wine with backbone.
Finish
Long, mineral, with lingering slate notes and refreshing citrus freshness. The acidity carries far and leaves a vibrant, juicy impression.
Terroir & Origin
The Trabener Gaispfad on the Mosel is a steep vineyard site with ancient, ungrafted vines on classic slate soil. These historic vineyards impart the wine’s distinctive mineral character and depth.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Riesling from very old, ungrafted vines. Spontaneous fermentation and maturation in traditional Mosel fuder (large wooden cask) – artisanal winemaking without compromise. Weiser-Künstler works here with minimal intervention.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Perfect with trout meunière, scallops, goat’s cheese or Asian dishes with coriander and lime. Also a delight on its own as an aperitif – do decant!
Special Characteristics
A dry Kabinett of the old school: light in alcohol, but by no means lightweight. Needs air and time. Those who bring patience will be rewarded with an authentic, unvarnished Mosel Riesling.
