Wine Description for Trabener Gaispfad Riesling Kabinett trocken 2024 by Weiser-Künstler

Colour & Appearance
Clear, luminous straw yellow.
Nose
Initially, this steep-slope Riesling appears somewhat reserved. With a little aeration, it reveals a stony, cool aura, as if fresh lemon and mint had been rubbed directly onto cool slate. This is accompanied by delicate nuances of lime zest, bitter grapefruit, crisp apple and a hint of lanolin.
Palate
Initially tight on the palate, the wine gains immense momentum after decanting. A playful, aromatic interplay of pale herbs and pronounced minerality unfolds. A subtle balance of dancing lightness and stony grip. The taut, polished acidity leaves no room for residual sweetness, giving the wine tremendous firmness and drive at a slender 10.0% ABV.
Terroir & Origin
Hails from the steep Trabener Gaispfad site in the Middle Mosel. The vines are rooted in barren blue Devonian slate, which imparts an uncompromising mineral clarity to the wine.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Single-varietal Riesling, sourced from extremely old, ungrafted vines. Harvesting is carried out entirely by hand. In the cellar, the estate relies consistently on spontaneous fermentation and gentle maturation in traditional Mosel Fuder casks.
Food Pairings
Pairs brilliantly with scallop ceviche, poached carp (“Karpfen blau”), fresh oysters or char sashimi with herb oil.
Key Features
Pressed from over 100-year-old, ungrafted vines. As career-changers and members of the “Klitzekleiner Ring”, Konstantin Weiser and Alexandra Künstler impressively demonstrate the sinewy depth and sense of place a classically dry Mosel Kabinett can possess.
