Wine Description for Riesling Lenchen Kabinett VDP Grosse Lage 2024 by Peter Jakob Kühn

Character
Peter Jakob Kühn is among the pioneers of biodynamic viticulture in the Rheingau and his Rieslings from the Lenchen rank among the finest the region produces. This Kabinett from the VDP Grosse Lage embodies classic Rheingau style: fine-boned, precise and with vibrant acidity, elegantly balanced by subtle residual sweetness. The moderate sweetness level points to a wine that brings fruitiness and minerality into harmonious equilibrium – a Kabinett in the traditional sense, combining drinking pleasure with depth.
Terroir & Origin
The Oestricher Lenchen is one of the Rheingau’s most significant vineyard sites, characterised by deep loess soils over limestone. This soil composition lends the wines their distinctive creamy texture and mineral tension. The south-westerly aspect and mild Rheingau climate enable a long, gentle ripening period. Kühn’s biodynamic management allows the vines to root deeply and the terroir to express itself unfiltered – wines that let their place speak.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Riesling finds one of its noblest expressions in the Rheingau. Kühn works with spontaneous fermentation and allows his wines time to develop. The Kabinett category stands for moderate alcohol levels and natural elegance – wines that convince through finesse rather than power. The winery’s biodynamic approach means hand-harvesting, minimal intervention and respect for natural rhythms. The result is Rieslings of crystalline clarity and authentic expression.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A versatile companion that shines both on its own and at table. Classically with blue trout, pike-perch with butter or asparagus with hollandaise sauce. The subtle sweetness harmonises beautifully with Asian cuisine, such as Thai curries or sushi. Also an excellent choice with goat’s cheese, fruit tarts or as an aperitif. A wine that combines complexity with accessibility.
