Savagnin

Savagnin grape – Historical watercolour from Viala & Vermorel Ampélographie (1901)

Also known as: Traminer (historical), Heida (Valais), Païen (Valais)

Savagnin is the soul of the Jura. The grape demands patience and rewards it with wines that defy categorisation. Some winemakers vinify it fresh and lively, others allow it to mature for years beneath a layer of yeast – the voile that gives Vin Jaune its oxidative depth. The result: walnut, curry, dried apricot, a saline tension that never relents.

At Grand in the Jura, Savagnin reveals its full range. Not only in the classic Vin Jaune, but also in fresh white cuvées that combine the grape’s aromatic presence with mineral clarity. A variety that doesn’t seek to please – but has something to say.
