Wine Description for Sgarzon Teroldego Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2020 1500ml Magnum by Foradori

Colour & Appearance
Luminous purple-red with violet reflections and a deep, almost black core – youthful intensity in the magnum.
Nose
Open-hearted and seductive, this young Teroldego presents itself with confidence: black cherries and wild plums dominate, underpinned by elderflower and lingonberry. These are joined by floral mallow notes, a vegetable freshness and a hint of dark tobacco. The sweet yeast note of this still-so-young wine lends additional complexity.
Palate
Here the true class reveals itself: contrary to the opulent nose, the Sgarzon acts on the palate with ascetic discipline. Not a fruit bomb, but pure extract with a driving pulse. The texture recalls burnt clay – typical of the amphora ageing. Silky and pure, the wine glides across the palate, carried by vibrant acidity and prickling minerality. The fruit becomes increasingly dark, yet remains crisply fresh.
Finish
Long and refined with bitter tobacco and dark, juicy fruit. The minerality lingers, the acidity invites another sip.
Terroir & Origin
The 2.5-hectare single vineyard site Sgarzon (Trentino dialect for „shoot“) lies in the Campo Rotaliano, an indentation of the Adige valley. The gravelly and sandy alluvial soils composed of limestone, granite and porphyry debris, washed down by the Noce river, give the Teroldego its characteristic freshness. The cooler microclimate ensures unusual vibrancy.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Teroldego, spontaneously fermented and aged for eight months in Spanish amphorae (tinajas) with skin contact. This biodynamic approach by Elisabetta Foradori emphasises purity and terroir expression. Modest 12.5% alcohol. Production: approximately 12,000 bottles annually.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Grilled salsiccia with fennel seed, grilled sardines with fennel salad or Pecorino with apple and black pepper – the wine loves rustic flavours and the spice of the grill and fennel.
Special Features
The magnum bottle promises optimal ageing. An exemplary natural wine that places elegance above power – Foradori’s signature in its purest form.
