Wine Description for Sgarzon Teroldego Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2019 by Foradori

Colour & Appearance
Lightly transparent purple-red, which already announces visually the cooler provenance and elegant character of this Teroldego.
Nose
Invigorating and wild at once: elderberries and sloe dominate, accompanied by sour cherries and violet flowers. These are joined by light tobacco, mint and dry undergrowth. A fine aroma of sweet yeast testifies to the youth of this fascinating wine – cooler and wilder than its sibling Morei.
Palate
The sweet yeast continues on the palate and merges with partly red, but especially dark, silky-textured fruit. The texture recalls burnt clay – a signature of the Tinaja ageing. Clear, pure and refined, this Teroldego presents itself with vibrant acidity and prickling minerality. Everything feels juicy and precise at once.
Finish
The fruit becomes darker in the finale, yet remains crisply fresh. Austere tobacco accompanies the conclusion and lends the wine additional complexity and length.
Terroir & Provenance
The 2.5-hectare Sgarzon vineyard site (Trentino dialect for „vine tendril“) lies in Campo Rotaliano near Mezzolombardo on alluvial silt with a high sand content. The open, wind-exposed parcel is barely sheltered – the grapes ripen approximately one week later than in the warmer Morei vineyard site.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Teroldego, aged for eight months on the skins in Spanish 420-litre Tinajas (cellar amphorae). In spring 2020 the wine was racked into concrete tanks to harmonise over the summer. At just 12.5% alcohol, a textbook example of elegance and drinkability.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Risotto with beetroot and walnuts, fillet steak with chermoula sauce and roasted tomatoes, or lamb cutlets on vegetable couscous.
Special Features
A wine that impressively unites Foradori’s biodynamic philosophy and the art of amphora ageing. The cooler, wilder sibling of Morei demonstrates how expressive and refined Teroldego can be.
