Teroldego

Also known as: Teroldego Rotaliano (DOC designation)

Teroldego essentially exists in only one place: the Piana Rotaliana in Trentino, an alluvial fan between the Dolomites and the Adige River. The grape is genetically related to Syrah – a sibling of Dureza, from which Syrah originated – and parent of Lagrein. You can taste this lineage: dark, almost inky colour, blackberry, white pepper, a hint of liquorice.

Foradori rescued Teroldego from obscurity. Elisabetta Foradori has been working biodynamically with old vines in the Piana Rotaliana since the 1980s. Her single-vineyard Teroldegos from amphorae demonstrate what the variety can achieve when taken seriously – not pleasantly fruity, but structured, with depth and ageing potential.
