Wine description for Sancerre rouge „Tirrepeine“ AOC 2022 by Matthias Planchon

Colour & Appearance
Lightly transparent cherry red – a Pinot Noir that reveals its provenance and elegance right from the glass.
Nose
Matthias Planchon’s „Tirrepeine“ presents itself with refined precision and refreshing coolness. The nose unfolds lingonberries, redcurrants and barberries, alongside ripe cherries and a subtle forest floor note, which lends the wine a pleasant depth. Despite the warm vintage of 2022, this Sancerre rouge retains its cool, Burgundian precision.
Palate
Slender, juicy and of remarkable clarity. The wine displays crisp dark berries, a firm core and a slightly creamy texture with chalky tannins. The saline minerality underscores the flint character of the vineyard site and delivers a vibrant, quaffable Pinot Noir with excellent drinking flow.
Finish
Fresh and juicy with lingering fruit and mineral precision. The chalky tannin structure carries the wine elegantly into the finale.
Terroir & Provenance
The vineyard site Tirrepeine sits at 300 metres altitude with an easterly aspect and is described as „kissed first by the sun“. The high flint content in the soil imparts the wine’s characteristic tension and mineral freshness – typical of the great wines of Sancerre.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Noir, completely destemmed. One year’s ageing in 228-litre barrels on fine lees, followed by a further year in stainless steel. Bottled according to the lunar cycle, unfiltered – a commitment to artisanal precision and natural winemaking.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A versatile companion to roasted poultry, duck breast served pink, veal medallions or mushroom risotto. Also an excellent choice with aged goat’s cheese from the Loire or Coq au Vin.
Special Features
A Sancerre rouge that proves freshness and elegance are possible even in warm vintages. Matthias Planchon succeeds here in crafting a Burgundian-inspired, precise Pinot Noir with Loire character – cool, juicy and with great drinking pleasure.
