Wine Description for Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC 2019 by Roche-Audran

Colour & Appearance
Pale cherry red with luminous, violet reflections – a youthful colour typical of Grenache that promises freshness and vitality.
Nose
Mystical and dark, this Châteauneuf presents itself with dark chocolate and coffee dominating initially, accompanied by black olives, leather and pencil shavings. The fruit shows itself with restrained nobility through plums, figs and mulberries, later also blackberry and sour cherry. Mediterranean spice runs through the bouquet: rosemary, thyme, garrigue, pine forest and mint lend ethereal depth. A hint of red fruit tea rounds off the complex aromatic interplay.
Palate
Here the true class of this pure Grenache reveals itself: compact and juicy, yet remarkably slender and refined. None of the often-encountered opulence of southern Châteauneuf – instead finesse and purposefulness. The texture feels fleshy, almost bloody, with pronounced substance. The fruit presents itself as small-berried with integrated acidity, as a fine stream running across the palate. The perfectly balanced acidity carries the exuberant fruit through to a long finish. Grenache at its finest – elegant rather than showy.
Finish
Long and fruit-driven with subtle spice. The finest fruit is carried by perfectly integrated acidity and leaves a sustained, fresh impression.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Grenache with 14.5% alcohol that never feels heavy despite its power. The vinification clearly aims for elegance and precision rather than concentration – a refreshing interpretation of the appellation.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The Mediterranean spice and slender structure harmonise beautifully with grilled red mullet with Mediterranean vegetable medley, braised cucumbers with crispy minced meat or even pointed cabbage tacos with date barbecue sauce. The acidity structure also pairs well with richer braised dishes.
Special Features
This Châteauneuf-du-Pape from Roche-Audran impressively demonstrates that the appellation can offer more than concentrated powerhouses. An elegant, refined representative that combines substance with drinkability – a modern, convincing interpretation of the southern Rhône classic.
