Color
Light cherry red with bright, violet reflections
Nose
The nose seems absolutely dark and mystical. Dark chocolate and coffee pour out of the glass. Black olives, leather and pencil go in a similar direction. Plums, rose hips, figs and mulberries deliver a good portion of fruit, which, however, does not want to impose itself. Blackberry, sour cherry and raspberry emerge with a little patience in the glass. It appears warm, but balanced. Mediterranean notes of olive, rosemary, thyme and garrigue are present. Pine forest and mint add ethereal components to the spiciness. Finally, it opens with notes of red fruit tea.
Palate
The Châteauneuf du Pape from Roche-Audran is based solely on the Grenache grape variety. The mouthfeel is compact and juicy. It seems fleshy and bloody at the same time. Substance and structure, yet full of finesse and purpose. The fruit is loud, but small-berried and integrated in a rather acidic way. At the same time, the fruit flows into a fine stream that works the palate. Unusually refined and lean. Not remotely fat or even over-concentrated. The spice appears only discreetly in the finish. Clearly more intense, it is characterised by sprawling, finest fruit, which is shaped by the perfectly balanced acidity. Grenache at its best.
