Wine Description for Châteauneuf-du-Pape rouge AOC 2020 from Marcoux

Colour & Appearance
Medium crimson red with remarkable clarity and transparency – a wine that doesn’t hide its origins behind extraction.
Nose
Elegant and multi-layered: violets and anise meet dark raspberries, black cherries and blackberries. Joined by pepper, garrigue and a fine herbal note of bouquet garni. In the background, mineral hints of crushed stone. The nose captivates through clarity and precision.
Palate
Exceptionally elegant texture with red and dark fruit, a typical liquorice note from the Grenache and Mediterranean garrigue aromas. The alcohol of 15.5% vol. provides noticeable warmth but is skilfully integrated. Already showing a fine silkiness that underscores the quality of Sophie Armenier and Vincėnt Estevenin’s work.
Finish
Long and warming with persistent fruit and spicy notes. The wine departs with elegance and depth.
Terroir & Origin
The Domaine cultivates 13 parcels across different districts of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This diversity of terroirs – quartzite pebbles, clay, red sandstone, colluvium and chalky limestone – lends the cuvée its remarkable complexity.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Classic Châteauneuf assemblage with approximately 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, 7% Syrah and 3% Cinsault. Hand-harvested with pre-sorting in the vineyard, spontaneous fermentation, four to five weeks‘ maceration with daily pump-overs. Maturation over 18 months primarily in concrete, complemented by multi-year casks and barriques – a method that preserves freshness and fruit.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Perfect with Bœuf à la Gardiane with oranges and olives, paella with chorizo and merguez or a rustic pulse soup with thyme. The wine handles robust, spicy flavours as well as Mediterranean braised dishes.
Special Features
A classic, timeless Châteauneuf that places elegance above power. Already accessible now, but possesses the potential for further development.
