Wine Description for Riesling Turckheim 2024 from Domaine Zind-Humbrecht

Colour & Appearance
Clear, pale golden yellow with brilliant reflection – youthful and inviting in the glass.
Nose
Seductively intense and almost deceptively fruity-sweet in character. The Riesling unfolds a complex bouquet of linden blossom and orange blossom, along with notes of Riesling zabaglione, fine citrus zest and ripe stone fruit. An aroma that promises more than the dry reality later delivers – and therein lies its charm.
Palate
Here the true nature of this wine reveals itself: bone-dry, serious and of impressive depth. Juicy and characteristically Alsatian-fruity with ripe stone fruit and citrus, yet of remarkable elegance and fine texture. The substance and intensity barely suggest that the alcohol content is below 12% vol. – a masterpiece of balance. Fine minerality and subtle spice structure the wine perfectly.
Finish
Endless, precise and characterised by mineral clarity. The spicy notes linger without ever becoming obtrusive – a finale that invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from the flat lands at Herrenweg in Turckheim, where clay, sand and gravel dominate. This valley floor, shaped in the Quaternary by glaciers and rivers, harbours layers of pebbles up to 45 metres deep. The early ripening conditions in 2024 were particularly favourable and enabled an early harvest at optimal physiology.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Riesling, aged in large wooden vats. The early harvest and active soil metabolism led to a dynamic, rapid fermentation to complete dryness. The pH value of 3.2 gives the wine additional freshness and ageing potential.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A versatile companion to seafood, oysters, sushi and sashimi. Excellent also with pan-fried sea fish, pike-perch or scallops. The mineral structure harmonises perfectly with goat’s cheese and light Asian dishes.
Special Characteristics
An individual character wine that bears the hallmark of Zind-Humbrecht: uncompromisingly dry, terroir-driven and of remarkable finesse despite moderate alcohol content. A Riesling that places elegance above power.
