Wine Description for Riesling Kientzheim K.T.Z.M. 2021 from Trapet Alsace

Colour & Appearance
Pale to medium straw yellow, crystal clear in the glass – a youthful appearance that promises freshness and precision.
Nose
Enchantingly inviting and appetising, this Riesling presents itself: ripe apples and mirabelle plums dominate, accompanied by ivy, lemon and a hint of salted lemon. Subtle apple skin lends complexity. The bouquet is fresh, clear and elegant – quintessentially Riesling, but with a particular finesse.
Palate
Slender, clear and precise, the wine glides across the tongue. The acidity and minerality from the granite subsoil unfold initially with restraint, but build second by second in intensity and tension. Smooth and silky in flow, with bright fruit and a subtle spicy note. This is not a loud wine – it whispers with conviction and impresses through elegance rather than power. A delicate yet compelling character.
Finish
Long and mineral-driven, with lingering freshness and a fine saline note that invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The vines are rooted at 350 metres altitude on the Riquewihr side of Kientzheim, directly below the forest. The soil of Triassic marl with fossils and abundant granite gives the wine its characteristic minerality. The approximately 30-year-old vines on just 0.5 hectares produce concentrated yet elegant fruit.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Riesling, aged in concrete eggs – a method that preserves the purity of the fruit whilst lending the wine structure and texture, without dominating through wood.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Excellent with sturgeon glazed with soy sauce, white asparagus and hollandaise sauce, egg parfait with morel reduction or guinea fowl loin with leeks and yellow oyster mushrooms. The wine’s minerality and acidity harmonise perfectly with rich yet refined dishes.
Special Features
K.T.Z.M. – this code stands for Riesling from Kientzheim and represents the philosophy of Trapet Alsace, producing terroir-driven wines with precision and restraint. A wine for connoisseurs who appreciate elegance over opulence.
