Wine description for Bourgogne Côte d’Or Vieilles Vignes AOC 2022 1500ml Magnum by Rémi Jobard
- Colour & appearance
- Medium-intense straw yellow with fine green reflections – clear and vibrant in the glass.
- Nose
- A bouquet of crystalline transparency: lemon oil, lemon blossom and lemon balm meet the peel of a Granny Smith apple and a hint of lime zest. Cool, linear and utterly unadorned.
- Palate
- Crystal-clear on entry, with a vibrant backbone of acidity and an almost powdery phenolic texture that lends the wine real drive. Beneath lies the power of the warm 2022 vintage: concentrated, intense, with profound depth and an energy rarely found at this entry level.
- Finish
- Long, salty and cool – the wine pulses out with maximum vibration, leaving a mineral resonance more reminiscent of Meursault Village than a basic Bourgogne.
- Terroir & origin
- The relatively young appellation Bourgogne Côte d’Or restricts provenance to the heartland of the Côte d’Or. Jobard’s vines for this wine are all situated in vineyard sites adjacent to Meursault on calcareous soils – two plots lie directly below the Premier Cru Les Charmes. The domaine has farmed organically since the 1990s and has held Ecocert certification since 2008.
- Grape variety & vinification
- Chardonnay from old vines, pressed over six to twelve hours at minimal pressure – only the finest must, free from bitter compounds. Maturation lasts around 15 months in 600-litre Stockinger casks rather than small barriques: less wood contact per litre, slower oxygen exchange and no roasted aromas whatsoever. The wood supports; it never dominates.
- Food recommendations
- The cool minerality and fine texture find their perfect match in a vegetable terrine with tarragon crème fraîche, a freshwater fish terrine with dill crème fraîche or a rabbit terrine with chervil crème fraîche. Poached fish in a light butter sauce is also an excellent pairing.
- Special notes
- Sarah Marsh MW describes Jobard’s wines as “top quality under the radar” – and this Bourgogne is the finest proof. It tastes like a Meursault at a fraction of the price, and the magnum format grants it additional time and freshness. A wine for the patient, who prefer clarity over opulence.
