Wine Description for Bourgogne Côte d’Or Vieilles Vignes AOC 2023 from Rémi Jobard
- Colour & Appearance
- Pale yellow with green reflections and a silvery rim – a visual indication of the youthful freshness and precision of this wine.
- Nose
- Aromatic abundance at the highest level: crisp apples and nashi pears meet lemon blossom, oyster shells and wet chalk. Between them oscillate sorrel and chervil, underpinned by saline minerality. This complexity recalls the finest Villages wines of the Côte de Beaune.
- Palate
- Powerful and vibrant from the first sip. The wine possesses impressive bass on the palate, carried by rich extract. The fruit from the nose returns, accompanied by ethereal anise and tarragon notes. The profound minerality harmonises perfectly with the ripe acidity and delicate tannin – the result is a truly compelling drinkability.
- Finish
- Long, cool and crystalline with persistent minerality. The chalky structure of the terroir resonates and leaves a saline, appetite-whetting impression.
- Terroir & Origin
- The new appellation Bourgogne Côte d’Or is restricted to the heartland of the Côte d’Or. Jobard’s old vines are rooted in sites directly adjacent to Meursault, two of them immediately below the Premier Cru site Charmes – which explains the exceptional quality of this „simple“ Bourgogne. The calcareous soils of Meursault fundamentally shape its character.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 100% Chardonnay from old vines, organically farmed since 2008. Jobard uses 600-litre Stockinger foudres rather than classic barriques – the larger wood allows gentle oxygen exchange without oak dominance. The result: crystalline clarity with profound minerality and fine texture.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Scallops, turbot in butter, lobster, Comté or aged goat’s cheese. Also an excellent choice with sweetbreads or poultry in cream sauce.
- Special Features
- Rémi Jobard belongs to the new school of Meursault and demonstrates with this wine that the Bourgogne category becomes a farce when old vines and top sites are involved. This is Premier Cru quality at a fraction of the price – an insider tip for Burgundy connoisseurs.
