Wine Description for Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières “Au Chaniot” AOC 2024 1500ml Magnum by Thomas-Collardot

Character
This Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru from the house of Thomas-Collardot embodies what the village of Puligny has been revered for over centuries: an incomparable combination of mineral precision and noble elegance. The magnum bottle (1500ml) promises not only a festive format, but also ideal ageing conditions – in the larger bottle, a Burgundy wine develops more slowly and harmoniously, which particularly benefits the potential of this Premier Cru.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site Les Folatières ranks among the most prestigious Premier Cru locations in Puligny and lies in the northern part of the commune, on a gently exposed slope below the world-renowned Montrachet Grand Crus. The parcel “Au Chaniot” is a precise section within this renowned climat – a testament to Burgundy’s obsession with parcel identity. The soil is characterised by calcareous clay over Kimmeridgian limestone, which gives the wine its characteristic tension and minerality. The vintage 2024 is considered challenging in the Côte de Beaune, yet for experienced winemakers with careful hand-harvesting, it is a source of vibrant, fresh wines with pronounced acidity structure.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Chardonnay – the only white grape variety used in the Grand and Premier Crus of the Côte de Beaune. Thomas-Collardot stands for artisanal, terroir-focused winemaking, where origin always takes centre stage. Traditionally, the vinification of such vineyard sites follows a combination of fermentation and ageing in barrique, with the use of new oak carefully measured to avoid masking the site’s fine minerality. With 12.5% vol. alcohol and a dry style, this wine presents itself as lean, focused and of remarkable length.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A wine of this origin and calibre demands accompaniments worthy of its complexity. Recommended pairings include lobster with beurre blanc, scallops on pea purée or a classic Poulet de Bresse à la crème. Mature Comté cheese or a delicate truffle risotto also form harmonious partnerships. In the magnum bottle, this wine is moreover a worthy centrepiece for any festive table.
