Wine Description for Chassagne-Montrachet Blanc AOC 2024 1500ml Magnum by Thomas Morey

Character
A classic White Burgundy from one of the most renowned appellations of the Côte de Beaune – presented in the generous magnum format, which provides the wine with optimal ageing conditions and makes it a worthy centrepiece for any festive table. Thomas Morey, son of the legendary Domaine Morey founder Bernard Morey, stands for a precise, clearly defined style that places elegance above opulence and lets the terroir speak for itself.
Terroir & Origin
Chassagne-Montrachet lies in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune and shares with its neighbour Puligny-Montrachet the distinction of producing perhaps the world’s most significant dry white wines. The soils are characterised by calcareous subsoil, marl and clay limestone – a foundation that gives Chardonnay structure, minerality and depth. The 2024 vintage is considered challenging, yet craftsman-like winemakers such as Morey know how to harness such years to produce wines of remarkable freshness and tension.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Chardonnay – the undisputed queen of the Côte de Beaune. Thomas Morey practises a respectful, artisanal approach in the cellar: careful use of oak, meticulous hand-harvesting and an élevage that preserves the wine’s natural tension. The result is a Chardonnay that is neither dominated by oak nor carried by excessive fruit, but lives from minerality, length and inner balance. With 13.0 % vol. and a dry profile, it displays the classic restraint of Burgundy.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The elegance and structure of this wine make it the ideal companion for lobster with beurre blanc, scallops on pea purée or a classic Poulet de Bresse à la crème. It also reveals its full stature alongside aged Comté or a fine Dover sole fillet with caper butter. The magnum size positively invites you to share it amongst good friends.
