Wine description for Meursault AOC 2024 1500ml Magnum by Thomas-Collardot

Character
A Chardonnay of almost ascetic clarity. Where some Meursaults lose themselves in richness and nuttiness, this wine remains cool and focused. The Magnum (1500 ml) enhances the wine’s natural presence without making it heavier – on the contrary: the larger bottle preserves the fine acid structure and salty minerality that define the estate. Do not expect buttery notes or vanilla, but rather citrus fruit, white flowers and a chalky texture that opens up slowly in the glass.
Terroir & Origin
Domaine Thomas-Collardot cultivates just 2.5 hectares in Puligny-Montrachet. Jacqueline Collardot and her son Matthieu have been vinifying their own wines since 2015 – previously, the grapes were sold to négociants. Their parcels are located in Les Enseignères, Les Nosroyes and Hameau de Blagny (1er Cru), vineyard sites renowned for their calcareous soils and cool, north-easterly exposure. The result is wines of transparency rather than opulence, of tension rather than breadth – a style that has become rare in Puligny.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Chardonnay in its purest form. The grapes are gently pressed, left to settle for 24 hours and aged in used 228-litre casks (two to four previous uses). Village and Premier Cru wines mature for sixteen months on the fine lees; they are only lightly filtered and never fined. Since 2021, the estate has been certified organic, and sulphur additions are largely avoided. The result is Chardonnays with a fine grain and a consistently dry, salty drive – no buttered toast, no clouds of vanilla.
Food Pairings
A wine for the table, not for show. With pan-fried turbot in lemon butter, sole with almond foam or young Comté – wherever the wine’s salty minerality enhances the flavours of the dish without overpowering them. Also an excellent choice with roasted cauliflower with tahini or spaghetti with clams. The Magnum makes it the ideal companion for a long evening with friends.
