Wine description for Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru “Hameau de Blagny” AOC 2024 by Thomas-Collardot
- Character
- Here Puligny speaks in its purest register: Chardonnay without artifice, saline and taut, with precise citrus fruit and that fine chalky texture which distinguishes the great white Burgundies of the Côte de Beaune. No buttered toast, no clouds of vanilla – instead, transparency, directness and a dry, mineral drive that evokes limestone rather than cellar.
- Terroir & Origin
- Hameau de Blagny lies on the border with Meursault and ranks among the village’s more understated, serious Premier Crus. The domaine farms just 2.5 hectares in the heart of Puligny-Montrachet – parcels that have been in the family for generations and were reclaimed by Jacqueline Collardot in 2010. Since 2015, the wines have been vinified in-house, and since 2018 jointly with her son Matthieu. A micro-estate producing around 10,000 bottles annually, whose wines are swiftly snapped up by connoisseurs.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Pure Chardonnay, vinified with a gentle hand: soft pressing, maturation in used 228-litre casks, sixteen months on the fine lees. The estate has been organically certified since 2021, largely eschews sulphur additions and never fines. The result is a wine of fine grain and cool contours – craftsmanship over spectacle.
- Food Pairings
- A wine for the table, not the pedestal: with sole in lemon butter, scallops with cauliflower, poached turbot or a simple chicken with morels. It also shines alongside aged Comté or Chaource, demonstrating why Puligny has set the benchmark for great white wine for centuries.
