Wine Description for Pouilly-Vinzelles Climat „Les Quarts“ Cuvée Millerandée AOC 2022 1500ml Magnum by La Soufrandière

Character
La Soufrandière’s Cuvée Millerandée is an extraordinary rarity from southern Burgundy. The term millerandage describes a natural phenomenon of uneven berry ripeness, resulting in smaller, more concentrated grapes – with intensified aromas and remarkably dense structure. Presented in magnum format, this Chardonnay displays additional ageing potential and develops even more complex nuances over the years.
Terroir & Origin
The Climat „Les Quarts“ lies in Pouilly-Vinzelles, an often underestimated appellation south of Pouilly-Fuissé in the Mâconnais. The Bret brothers of La Soufrandière manage these parcels with uncompromising care and biodynamic philosophy. The limestone soils impart that mineral tension which characterises great Burgundian Chardonnay, whilst the warmer southern climate provides fuller fruit and supple texture.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Chardonnay displays a particular balance in the Mâconnais between Burgundian elegance and southern opulence. La Soufrandière works with natural yeasts, minimal intervention, and respects the distinctive character of each vintage. The millerandage grapes naturally bring higher extraction and concentration, giving the wine extraordinary depth without losing its Burgundian finesse. The ageing is conducted traditionally, with focus on precision and terroir expression.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This concentrated, mineral Chardonnay demands correspondingly substantial dishes: pan-fried turbot with morels, lobster in butter sauce, calf’s sweetbreads or Poularde de Bresse with cream sauce. It also shows its full class with aged cheeses such as Comté or Beaufort d’Alpage. The magnum bottle makes it the ideal companion for festive occasions.
