Wine Description for Bourgogne Côte d’Or Vieilles Vignes AOC 2023 1500ml Magnum by Rémi Jobard

Character
Rémi Jobard, scion of one of Meursault’s most renowned winemaking families, vinifies this Bourgogne Côte d’Or from old vines with the precision and finesse that have distinguished Maison Jobard for generations. The designation Vieilles Vignes signals vines of at least 35 years old, which yield more concentrated, complex grapes. Presented in magnum format, this Chardonnay benefits from the slower, more harmonious maturation that larger bottles favour. The 2023 vintage promises Burgundian elegance with vibrant freshness.
Terroir & Origin
The relatively new appellation Bourgogne Côte d’Or (since 2017) allows winemakers to blend grapes from various parcels along the prestigious Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits – a quality leap over simple Bourgogne. Jobard’s vineyards benefit from the limestone-rich soils of Meursault, that mineral foundation which gives Burgundian white wines their characteristic tension. The continental climate with cool nights preserves natural acidity, whilst warm days ensure physiological ripeness.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Chardonnay finds its purest expression in Burgundy – nowhere does the variety show greater transparency for its terroir. Jobard works traditionally: gentle pressing, fermentation in Fûts (oak barrels), with restrained wood influence to avoid masking the fruit. Work with natural yeasts and minimal intervention creates wines that prioritise minerality, structure and elegance over opulent fruit – a Burgundian philosophy that demands patience and skill.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This Chardonnay demands cuisine that respects its finesse: scallops with brown butter, lobster or langoustines, poultry in cream sauce, Comté or Beaufort. Also a classic pairing with turbot or sole meunière. The magnum bottle makes it ideal for festive occasions with multiple guests.
