Wine Description for Pinot Gris Rotenberg 2014 from Domaine Zind-Humbrecht

Colour & Appearance
A luminous, rich golden yellow presents itself in the glass – intense as an egg yolk, clear and gleaming. The depth of colour already hints at the concentration and maturity of this extraordinary Pinot Gris.
Nose
Opulent and multi-layered, an aromatic complex of impressive fullness unfolds. At the centre stand ripe apricots and Charentais melon, flanked by the ethereal spice of blood orange zest and candied pineapple. These are joined by herbal nuances of meadow sage, spruce shoots and dandelion, rounded off by hints of honeybush tea and beeswax. An aromatic kaleidoscope that masterfully unites fruit, spice and floral notes.
Palate
Here the Rotenberg reveals its true greatness: broad-shouldered and opulent, yet remarkably balanced and compactly structured. The creamy fruit texture is counterbalanced by a fine bitterness and moderate acidity – a perfect example of power and finesse in harmonious coexistence. The texture is tight-knit, the presence impressive, without ever feeling heavy.
Finish
The wine fades persistently and elegantly, with the delicate bitterness and moderate acidity lingering long and lending structure to the opulent fruit character.
Terroir & Origin
The Rotenberg is one of the flagship vineyard sites of Domaine Zind-Humbrecht in Alsace. The site produces Pinot Gris of extraordinary concentration and complexity – wines that rank among the finest representatives of this variety worldwide.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Pinot Gris from the outstanding vintage of 2014, which has now developed wonderful maturity. With 13.5% alcohol and slight residual sweetness, the wine displays the balance between power and elegance typical of Zind-Humbrecht.
Food Pairing Recommendations
The opulence and structure make this wine ideal for robust dishes: cheese fondue, pan-fried sea bream with saffron risoni and okra or veal fricassée with chanterelles and braised leeks. The wine’s complexity pairs well with intense flavours and creamy textures.
Special Features
A vinophile’s lesson in balance – Yin and Yang in a glass. The wine impressively demonstrates how opulence and finesse, power and elegance need not be mutually exclusive, but can instead enhance one another.
