Wine Description for Pinot Grigio Toscana IGT 2024 by Col d’Orcia

Colour & Appearance
Luminous straw yellow with brilliant greenish reflections – a visual promise of freshness and vibrancy in the glass.
Nose
The bouquet presents itself intensely and seductively aromatic: linden blossom and ripe pears dominate, flanked by crisp yellow apples, exotic notes of carambola and a hint of Galia melon. Subtle nuances of blonde tobacco, almond and lemon lend additional complexity to the aromatic profile.
Palate
Juicy and coating, this Pinot Grigio presents itself on the palate with surprising fullness. The successful balance between ripe stone fruit, fine herbal and tobacco spice and noticeably fresh acidity impresses. A subtle tannic structure gives the wine additional grip, whilst the intensity carries through to a beautiful finish.
Finish
Medium-length, fruit-driven finish with lingering freshness and fine spice.
Terroir & Origin
The vines thrive in the hilly alluvial terraces of the Orcia and Ombrone valleys at 250 metres altitude in a favoured south-facing position – an unconventional but successful home for the grape variety originating from northern Italy.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Hand-harvested in the cool morning hours, followed by cold maceration at 8–10 °C and gentle pressing. Fermentation took place at controlled 16–18 °C over 10–12 days, maturation in stainless steel with early bottling in early January – a vinification style that maximises freshness and fruit.
Food Pairing Recommendations
An uncomplicated yet well-made table wine that pairs excellently with grilled fish, seafood, asparagus risotto, light pasta dishes or poultry salads. Also an excellent choice as an aperitif.
Special Features
With this Pinot Grigio, Col d’Orcia proves that the grape variety can certainly impress in Tuscany – without Brunello ambitions, but with honest character and successful execution. A pleasant surprise for anyone seeking a substantial, non-banal Pinot Grigio.
