Wine Description for Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2023 375ml from Col d’Orcia

Character
Col d’Orcia presents the accessible, fresh side of Montalcino with this Rosso di Montalcino. The 375ml bottle is ideal for spontaneous enjoyment without compromising on quality. The 2023 vintage expresses the vibrant fruit and clear structure of Sangiovese – an authentic ambassador of its origin that conveys the essence of the terroir without excessive oak influence.
Terroir & Origin
Col d’Orcia has cultivated vineyards on the southern slopes of Montalcino for generations, where maritime influences and the characteristic galestro and clay soils lend Sangiovese its typical tension. The Rosso di Montalcino appellation permits a shorter maturation period than its elder sibling Brunello, resulting in wines with immediate accessibility and fresh fruitiness. The estate ranks among the region’s most traditional producers and stands for artisanal precision without fashionable exaggeration.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Sangiovese – here in its local expression as Sangiovese Grosso – is the sole grape variety and reveals itself in this interpretation with juicy cherry fruit, lively acidity and fine-grained tannins. Maturation typically takes place in larger wooden casks or only partially in barrique to preserve the varietal freshness. At 14% alcohol, the wine possesses sufficient substance whilst remaining elegant and highly drinkable – a Rosso that reflects the estate’s philosophy: respect for tradition and terroir.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This Rosso is the ideal companion to everyday Tuscan cuisine: pasta al ragù, saltimbocca alla romana, grilled vegetables with olive oil or a pizza with salami and rocket. It also shows its strengths alongside mature pecorino or Parma ham. The handy bottle size makes it perfect for a relaxed dinner for two.
