Wine Description for Piandorino Tuscany IGT 2021 by Pian Dell’Orino

Colour & Appearance
Muted garnet red with violet reflections towards the rim – youthful and inviting in the glass.
Nose
Captivating intensity with cassis, dark berries and sweet cherries. Behind this lies a precise mineral freshness that already reveals remarkable depth on the nose – a Sangiovese that immediately entices you to taste.
Palate
Juicy and invigorating with sweet fruit and refreshing acidity. The fine-grained tannin structure clothes the palate beautifully without ever dominating. Incredibly lively and accessible – a Sangiovese that combines drinking pleasure with substance.
Finish
Medium length, fresh and with lingering fruitiness that invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from the vineyards Moro, Cancello Rosso and Pian Bassolino at 320 to 480 metres above sea level. The south-easterly facing vineyard sites on calcareous clay, weathered marl and Alberese soils give the wine its characteristic minerality. The vines were between 7 and 13 years old at harvest – young plantings that already deliver impressive quality.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Sangiovese, spontaneously fermented with 18 days of skin contact. Subsequently 17 months maturation in 15-hectolitre barrel. Meticulous selection during hand harvest and at the sorting table – Caroline Pobitzer and Jan-Hendrik Erbacher work here with uncompromising precision.
Food Pairing Suggestions
An uncomplicated companion to traditional Italian cuisine: excellent with lasagne, beetroot risotto with smoked burrata or chicken leg with rosemary potatoes and red wine jus.
Special Features
The Piandorino is the perfect introduction to Pian dell’Orino’s top range – a Sangiovese that proves accessibility and depth need not be opposites. Already a pleasure to drink now, with potential for a further 3-5 years.
