Wine Description for Nemochet 2023 by Klaus Vorgrimmler

Colour & Appearance
Luminous golden yellow in the glass – a Chardonnay that already hints at its two years of barrel ageing in its colour.
Nose
This wine needs air. Initially reductive and marked by oak, the Nemochet opens up with dried apricots, preserved pineapple and honey. These are joined by caramel and a hint of wood smoke. With oxygen, a fascinating herbal complexity unfolds: wild mint, anise, coriander and fennel – an aromatic kaleidoscope that rewards patience.
Palate
Refreshingly juicy and lively. The exotic fruitiness of the nose is overlaid on the palate by an intense herbal note: linden blossom, fennel, fennel herb, a trace of artichoke and again this distinctive coriander. The texture is powerful, the body substantial – a wine with grip and tension.
Finish
Long and herbaceous-spicy. The fine acidity carries the aftertaste, whilst the herbal notes linger. A finale that promises development potential.
Terroir & Origin
From the Tuniberg, a geological peculiarity in the Upper Rhine Graben: a fault block of Jurassic limestone, swept over by glacial loess. In the steeper southern section, the vines root down into the limestone – this gives this Chardonnay its mineral tension and structure.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Chardonnay, aged two years in barrel, unfiltered and bottled directly. Klaus Vorgrimmler works with craft and patience – this wine is the best proof of that. The oak influence is still present, but will integrate harmoniously over time.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This powerful, herbaceous-spicy Chardonnay calls for equally intense dishes: pan-fried turbot with fennel-orange salad, calf sweetbreads sautéed in butter, lobster with tarragon sauce or a mature Comté. Also an excellent choice with risotto with artichokes.
Special Features
The Nemochet is dedicated to the winery’s cats – a charming homage to the feline companions in the vineyard. More importantly, however: this is a wine with a future. Those who buy now should give it another year or two in the cellar. The potential is unmistakable.
