Wine Description for Mugler Cuvée -R- Red Wine 2023 by M. Schädler – Steffen Mugler

Colour & Appearance
Deep dark violet-red with youthful luminosity – a wine that displays its freshness right in the glass.
Nose
Seductively juicy and expressive: dark cherries, blueberries and cassis dominate, underpinned by hibiscus, rosemary and thyme. These are joined by cedarwood, a hint of cinnamon and a touch of cocoa – an aromatic invitation that immediately whets the appetite.
Palate
What the nose promises, the palate delivers: juicy fruit with delicate sweetness, moderate acidity and refined tannins in perfect balance. Nothing feels forced, everything flows harmoniously. An uncomplicated pleasure wine with character – down-to-earth, honest, eminently drinkable.
Finish
Medium length with fine spice and lingering fruit. Remains present without dominating – just right for relaxed moments.
Terroir & Origin
From Maikammer in the Palatinate, where Steffen Mugler has run the former Schädler estate with his wife Daniela since 2002. Biodynamic viticulture follows the rhythm of nature and relies on healthy soils as the foundation for authentic wines.
Grape Variety & Vinification
An exciting 50/50 cuvée of Satin Noir – a fungus-resistant future variety (Piwi) that Mugler actively promotes – and St. Laurent. The grapes are harvested late for optimal ripeness, then fermented on the skins in open wooden vats and hand-punched down. Matured in wooden barrels until bottling. Crafted, consistent, honest.
Food Pairing Suggestions
An ideal companion to roast beef, lamb ragout, venison goulash or mature cheese. Also an excellent choice with pasta in tomato and meat sauce or grilled dishes. Perfect for hearty, down-to-earth cuisine.
Special Features
A wine with outstanding value for money that demonstrates how modern Piwi grape varieties can be. Mugler’s commitment to sustainable future wines becomes pleasurably tangible here – without preaching, with genuine drinking pleasure.
