Wine Description for Mirabelles 2019 by Celler Credo
- Colour & Appearance
- Luminous golden yellow with amber-hued reflections, indicating maceration fermentation. Clear and brilliant in the glass, with medium viscosity that reflects the moderate alcohol content.
- Nose
- Seductively aromatic with ripe mirabelle plums and yellow plums, which give the wine its name. These are joined by apricot, quince and a hint of orange zest. Floral notes of acacia blossom and chamomile lend elegance, whilst subtle herbal nuances and a fine honey spice create complexity.
- Palate
- At only 10.5% alcohol, remarkably substantial and textured. The extended maceration time gives the wine a silky, almost creamy body with delicate phenolic grip. Juicy stone fruit aromas dominate, underpinned by a lively, yet not overbearing acidity. The Malvasia reveals its aromatic side here: ripe mirabelle plums, white peaches and a hint of beeswax. Dry on the finish, with a fine, almost saline minerality.
- Finish
- Medium to long, with lingering fruit aromas and a pleasant, slightly bitter note reminiscent of almond skin. The fine tannin structure lends grip and drinkability in equal measure.
- Terroir & Origin
- From the biodynamically managed vineyards of Celler Credo in Penedès, on clay, limestone and gravel. The parcels, comprising around eight hectares, benefit from the Mediterranean climate and altitude, which guarantee freshness and elegance.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 100% Malvasia, spontaneously fermented with extended maceration time, which gives the wine its characteristic texture and colour. Minimal or no sulphur additions, crafted without oenological tricks – pure terroir in a glass.
- Food Pairing Recommendations
- Excellent with roasted turbot, goat’s cheese with honey, saltimbocca or calf’s sweetbreads with morels. Also a fascinating pairing with Asian dishes featuring ginger and lemongrass.
- Special Features
- An extraordinary natural wine from Recaredo, a house normally renowned for excellent Cavas. The low alcohol content makes it the ideal lunchtime wine with serious character.
