Wine information
This very distinctive orange wine comes from the red Xarel.lo, a kind of "intermediate vine" that develops a pink berry skin as it matures, similar to Pinot Gris. In Spain, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, the red Xarel.lo was cultivated on only 271 hectares in 2022. This means that the variety occupies significantly less area than its relative, the white Xarel.lo, which covers more than 10,000 hectares of vineyards in Catalonia.
Behind the producer Celler Credo is none other than the Corpinnat winery Recaredo. The Ambivalent 2018 comes from grapes from biodynamic cultivation. The wine was fermented on the skins for ten days, not fined, not filtered and only minimally added with sulphur. The result is a complex, interesting and drinkable wine.
Color
Red gold, slightly cloudy
Nose
The Ambivalent 2018 has a very refreshing, slightly tart nose with stimulating herbal notes and apple aromas. The aromatics are very precise, clean and clear.
Palate
On the palate, the wine feels very fresh, well structured and grippy. It is finely spicy and aromatic throughout - from the attack to the long, stimulating finish. In the best sense of the word, the Ambivalent 2018 is also quaffable It pulls away so beautifully that you wish the bottle was bigger than 0.75 litres. The wine is only 11 percent by volume, but it is not a pure lightweight, it is also full-bodied and multi-layered. In the overall picture, this is absolutely amazing and contradicts the cliché of the ripe and lush wine from the hot Mediterranean region.
