Wine description for Marsannay rouge AOC 2023 by Trapet Père & Fils

Colour & Appearance

Bright ruby red with cherry-red reflections. The colour displays the youthful freshness of the 2023 vintage and promises an elegant, not overly heavy Pinot Noir from the northernmost appellation of the Côte d’Or.

Nose

This Marsannay seduces with an enticing bouquet of fresh red berries – raspberries and cherries dominate, accompanied by floral notes and a hint of spice. The biodynamic viticulture of the Trapet family is evident in the purity and clarity of the aromas, which come across without any heaviness or over-extraction.

Palate

On the palate, the wine presents itself with silky tannins and a vibrant acidity, typical of Marsannay’s northern location. The fruit remains present but is threaded through with a mineral vein that gives the wine length and complexity. At 13% alcohol, it never feels heavy, instead displaying Burgundian elegance in perfect form.

General Information

Jean-Louis and Andrée Trapet manage their estates according to biodynamic principles, which is reflected in the authenticity and terroir-fidelity of their wines. Their philosophy of „guiding, but never forcing“ is evident in this harmonious Marsannay, which expresses the characteristics of the appellation unadulterated.

Food Pairing Suggestions

Perfect with Coq au Vin, duck breast with cherries or aged soft cheese such as Époisses. The wine’s elegance also harmonises beautifully with lamb rack with herbs of Provence or game birds.

Special Features

This Marsannay exemplifies why Burgundy’s northernmost red wine appellation is often underrated. Excellent value for money for authentic Burgundy Pinot from a renowned producer. Already approachable now, it will develop further complexity over the next 5-7 years.
