Wine Description for Argos VdF 2020 by Les Poëte

Colour & Appearance
Vibrant straw yellow with golden reflections – a Sauvignon Blanc that visually announces its three years of maturation.
Nose
Guillaume Sorbe showcases the full spectrum of a classic Loire Sauvignon here: gooseberry and white currant meet the characteristic green notes of nettle leaves. These are joined by lemon sorbet, lime and an exotic hint of passion fruit. The aromatics are precisely drawn, elegant, never intrusive.
Palate
Here the true class of this wine reveals itself: juicy and silky in texture, yet threaded through with vibrant freshness. The three years of maturation – partly in tank, but above all in used 400 and 600-litre barrels – lend the Argos remarkable depth and body. Saline, herbal notes contrast with the fruitiness, a chalky texture structures the finish. The acidity is pleasantly present, never dominant, and carries the aromas far across the palate.
Finish
Long, mineral and powerful. The saline notes linger, underpinned by a fine bitterness reminiscent of grapefruit zest.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from parcels in Quincy on the Loire, where gravelly-chalky soils give the wine its characteristic minerality. Since 2018, Sorbe has deliberately eschewed the Quincy AOC designation and declares it as Vin de France – a statement for independence and artisanal freedom.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Sauvignon Blanc, spontaneously fermented and matured over three years. The predominant ageing in used barrels imparts complexity without oak aromas.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A wine with stature that demands discerning companions: scallops with cauliflower purée, pan-fried turbot, goat’s cheese from the Loire or oysters – classic and perfect.
Special Features
A Sauvignon Blanc that proves patience is rewarded. The three years of maturation lend this wine a depth and complexity that far exceeds typical Loire Sauvignons.
