Wine Description for Argos VdF 2020 by Les Poëte

Colour & Appearance
Vibrant straw yellow, which already hints at the maturity and substance of this extraordinary Sauvignon Blanc in the glass.
Nose
Guillaume Sorbe delivers a Sauvignon Blanc that reinterprets the variety. Classic notes of gooseberries and white currants meet lemon sorbet, limes and nettle leaves. A hint of passion fruit lends exotic depth to the bouquet. The nose is elegant, precise and multi-layered – far removed from clichéd Sauvignon stereotypes.
Palate
On the palate, the Argos unfolds impressive complexity: juicy, silky and fresh, yet of remarkable depth and vibrancy. The generous body is perfectly balanced by a pleasant acidity. Saline, herbal notes and a chalky texture lend the wine structure and tension. This is no light-footed summer wine, but a Sauvignon with stature, power and impressive length.
Finish
Long-lasting with mineral precision and chalky texture that refreshes the palate and invites another sip.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from parcels in Quincy on the Loire, where gravelly-chalky soils give the wine its characteristic minerality. These soils are predestined for Sauvignon Blanc and produce wines of great finesse.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Sauvignon Blanc, spontaneously fermented and aged for three years – partly in tank, but mainly in used 400 and 600-litre barrels. This patient vinification lends the wine its complexity and depth. Declared as Vin de France since 2018.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A wine for the discerning table: scallops with butter and herbs, pan-fried turbot, goat’s cheese from the Loire, asparagus with hollandaise sauce or oysters. The structure also allows pairing with roasted poultry.
Special Features
A Sauvignon Blanc that combines patience and craftsmanship. The three-year ageing is unusual for the variety and demonstrates Guillaume Sorbe’s courage for independence.
