Wine Description for Langenlois Grosse Reserve Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature 2014 from Weingut Loimer
- Colour & Appearance
- Intense lemon yellow with golden and green reflections. The perlage is fine and active, the mousseux presents itself evenly, though not excessively persistent – a sign of maturity and the Brut Nature character.
- Nose
- The 78 months on the lees have bestowed impressive complexity upon this sparkling wine. Warm brioche with salted butter, mirabelle plums and peach evoke fine patisserie, complemented by exotic hints of pineapple and mango. Yet Loimer skilfully balances this opulence with fresh elements: lime and lemon zest, oyster shell, wet chalk and mineral stone create a fascinating tension between ripeness and freshness.
- Palate
- The attack immediately reveals the multi-layered nature of this Blanc de Blancs. Warm fruit meets creamy lees character with substantial weight that lingers for minutes. Then the mineral side unfolds: bracingly cool, elegant, with a mouthfeel that lives more from complexity and length than from opulence. Almond and hazelnut shape the finish.
- Finish
- Long, mineral and interwoven with nutty tones. The Brut Nature dosage (0 g/l) allows the wine’s purity and precision to shine through unadorned.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- A cuvée of Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris, whose grapes were harvested between 2014 and 2019. Gentle pressing with only 50% yield, fermentation in stainless steel tank with malolactic fermentation. After 16 months‘ maturation on gross and fine lees, bottle fermentation took place in December 2015. Minimum 90 months on lees, disgorged in May 2023 as Brut Nature.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Turbot roasted on the bone with kohlrabi and beurre blanc, lemon chicken with Tajin and warm couscous or braised rabbit with herb and vegetable gratin. The mineral freshness and creamy texture make it an ideal companion for sophisticated fish dishes and white meat.
- Special Features
- A sparkling wine that proves Austrian Winzersekt can stand shoulder to shoulder with great Champagnes. The extended lees ageing and the bold Brut Nature dosage demonstrate Loimer’s confidence in terroir and craftsmanship.
