Colour & Appearance

Pale straw yellow with brilliant clarity – a wine that already promises elegance and finesse to the eye.

Nose

Ethereal and of great depth: fennel seed, white flowers and verbena meet lime, lemon and bergamot. Beneath lies a fascinating mineral layer with hints of wet stone with lichen, smoke, almonds and a touch of lanolin. This complexity reveals itself layer upon layer.

Palate

Here the true greatness of the Idig reveals itself: bubbling energy meets vibrant minerality, precision pairs with sovereignty. The 2024 possesses that magical tension between earthy depth and dancing lightness that only great wines command. Charming and nonchalant in its appearance, yet carried by enormous complexity and elegance. The texture is silky, the acidity perfectly integrated.

Finish

Long, persistent and characterised by saline minerality. The wine resonates for minutes and leaves an impression of crystalline purity and noble limestone character.

Terroir & Origin

The Idig is Christmann’s crown jewel – an undivided monopoly vineyard site documented since the 14th century, spanning four hectares. The steep south-southeast-facing slope over massive limestone bedrock with terra fusca limestone rubble, buntsandstein rubble and basalt creates a microclimate that ranks among Germany’s absolute grand cru sites.

Grape Variety & Vinification

Riesling in pure form, farmed biodynamically. After several hours of skin contact, spontaneous warm fermentation and maturation in large double oak casks – classical craftsmanship that gives maximum expression to the terroir.

Food Pairing Suggestions

Scallops with fennel, turbot with herb sauce, calf’s sweetbreads with morels, asparagus with hollandaise sauce or aged Comté. A wine that also shines on its own and invites contemplation.
