Terroir & Origin

The Königsbacher Idig is the absolute heart of Weingut Christmann – an undivided monopoly vineyard of four hectares, first documented in the 14th century. The steeply south-southeast-facing slope rests upon a massive limestone subsoil with terra fusca limestone rubble overlay, buntsandstein gravel and basalt. Few vineyard sites in Germany deserve the designation Grand Cru as unconditionally as this one.

Grape Variety & Vinification

Riesling from biodynamically farmed vines. The grape must spent several hours on the skins, was subsequently fermented spontaneously at warm temperatures and aged in large double oak casks – a traditional, artisanal approach that imparts maximum terroir depth to the wine. The 1500ml magnum ensures ideal maturation conditions for multi-generational ageing potential.
