Wine Description for Zweigelt 2017 1500ml Magnum by Heinrich

Colour & Appearance
Luminous ruby red with garnet rim and violet core – crystal clear and seductively lustrous in the glass. The colour intensity already reveals the concentrated fruit of this magnum bottling.
Nose
A textbook example of authentic Austrian Zweigelt: morello cherry and sour cherry dominate the bouquet with a directness that eschews all pretension. The aromatics elegantly progress from fresh sour cherry through the piquant note of lingonberries to hints of Black Forest gateau. Throughout, the wine remains straightforward and transparent – an honest calling card of the warm 2017 vintage at Lake Neusiedl.
Palate
The defining characteristic of this Zweigelt is its juiciness. The cherry fruit parade continues seamlessly on the palate, carried by fine-grained, gripping tannins that lend the wine structure and grounding depth. At a moderate 12% alcohol, the 2017 proves remarkably full-bodied and ripe, without sacrificing freshness. The cool elegance and precise tannin framework hold the fruit abundance in perfect balance. Serving temperature: 15-16°C.
Finish
Medium length with lingering cherry fruit and fine, slightly astringent tannin that invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
From Lake Neusiedl in Burgenland, where Gernot and Heike Heinrich work biodynamically. The Pannonian climate influence – hot summers, mild autumns – shapes the concentration and ripeness, whilst the lake provides temperature-moderating freshness.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Perfect with pan-fried salsiccia with cherry tomatoes, braised pork ribs with aubergines and chickpeas or Fourme d’Ambert with braised red onion. The wine’s juiciness harmonises beautifully with spiced meat dishes and aged cheese.
Special Features
The magnum bottle (1500ml) guarantees slower, more harmonious maturation. An authentic, unadorned Zweigelt from the biodynamic flagship producer Heinrich – honest, precise, and inviting.
