Wine Description for Pannobile Red 2016 1500ml Magnum by Nittnaus Anita & Hans

Colour & Appearance
A dense, almost impenetrable garnet red with seductive violet-black reflections – a wine that already signals depth and seriousness in the glass.
Nose
The nose is dark and opulent, yet marked by remarkable elegance: morello cherries, blackberries and plum paste form the fruit-driven foundation, underpinned by firewood, Mediterranean herbs, liquorice and a subtle hint of green pepper – the unmistakable signature of Blaufränkisch. Youthful, densely fruited and of striking coherence.
Palate
On the palate, juicy, fresh fruit unfolds with a particularly prominent cherry note, carried by a vibrant, invigorating acidity. The tannins are refined and well-integrated, whilst the stony minerality lends the wine grip and finesse in equal measure. A substantial, well-balanced wine that unites charm and substance in rare harmony.
Finish
Long, invigorating and persistent – the finish resonates with dark fruit and spicy minerality, leaving you wanting another sip. Pure drinking pleasure.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes hail from top hillside sites on the northern edge of Lake Neusiedl: the Zweigelt from the renowned Leithaberg in Jois, the Blaufränkisch from the Golser Ungerberg – two vineyard sites known for their mineral depth and aromatic complexity.
Grape Variety & Vinification
A blend of Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt, hand-harvested and selected. Spontaneous fermentation in wood, followed by 20 months of ageing on the lees in 500-litre barrels – an élevage that creates depth and texture without overwhelming the fruit. Biodynamically farmed vineyards underscore the philosophy of the Nittnaus estate.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A versatile companion: excellent with beef fillet with creamed spinach and toasted pine nuts, equally convincing with savoury filo pastry tart with minced meat, aubergines and rosemary. With pan-fried polenta slices with mushroom ragout too, it reveals its accessible, pleasure-seeking side.
Special Features
The 1.5-litre magnum bottle is a special gift for a wine of this quality and structure: slower maturation in the larger format promises additional complexity and exceptional ageing potential. A wine for special occasions – or for those who know that patience is rewarded.
