Wine Description for Granato Teroldego Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2018 1500ml Magnum by Foradori
- Colour & Appearance
- Deep cherry red with brilliant luminosity – a wine that already hints at its alpine origins in the glass.
- Nose
- Fascinatingly multi-layered: plums, blackberries and elderberry form the dark fruit foundation, whilst violets and floral notes increasingly gain presence. Subtle spice from clove and cinnamon, along with hints of leather and juniper. Particularly appealing: a delicate note of mandarin zest that lends the bouquet a herbal-tart tension. Roasted aromas and cedarwood remain discreetly in the background.
- Palate
- Here the Granato reveals its true character: powerful, yet never heavy. The fine-grained tannins are perfectly integrated, the structure characterised by cool elegance. The fruit presents itself remarkably bright and transparent – no trace of concentration or overripeness. A racy acidity lends the wine drive and finesse, whilst spice notes provide complexity. In the finish, the violet and floral tones resonate beautifully.
- Finish
- Long, precise and of remarkable persistence. The alpine freshness remains intact to the very end – a wine that convinces through elegance rather than power.
- Terroir & Origin
- The Campo Rotaliano in Trentino offers ideal conditions: alluvial silt with sand and gravel, interspersed with limestone, granite and porphyry weathered stone. Proximity to the Dolomites provides that cool radiance which makes the Granato so unmistakable.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Teroldego from four hectares of old vines trained in traditional pergola style. Spontaneous fermentation in large open wooden fermenters, followed by 15 months of maturation in wood. Foradori practises biodynamic viticulture and eschews oenological tricks – the result is an authentic, terroir-driven wine with moderate 13% alcohol.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Chargrilled roast beef with roasted broccoli, lamb shoulder ragout with turnips or minced meat bake with Jerusalem artichokes. The wine harmonises excellently with robust meat dishes that underscore its structure and spice.
- Special Features
- The magnum bottle guarantees optimal ageing conditions. Elisabetta Foradori is regarded as a pioneer of biodynamic viticulture in Trentino and has brought the autochthonous Teroldego variety to world renown.
