Wine Description for Granato Teroldego Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2021 by Foradori

Colour & Appearance
Deep, saturated ruby red with an almost impenetrable core – a wine that reveals its concentration immediately in the glass.
Nose
Opulent and multi-layered, the 2021 Granato presents itself with distinction: pomegranate, mulberries and blackberries form the dark fruit-driven foundation, complemented by black cherries and dried plums. Fine floral notes of mallow, hibiscus and violet hover above. A generous, expressive wine that benefits from decanting in its youth.
Palate
Silky, plush, majestic – the Granato impressively demonstrates why Foradori is regarded as the reference for Teroldego. The dark fruit richness is structured by noble, mature tannins, whilst an elegant acidity lends the wine freshness and tension. The balance between extract and finesse is remarkable; nothing feels overloaded, everything harmonises beautifully.
Finish
Long, dignified and precise. The fruit aromas linger, accompanied by fine tannins and vibrant acidity.
Terroir & Origin
The Campo Rotaliano between two mountain ridges in the Adige Valley is the heart of Teroldego cultivation. Over centuries, the Noce river has deposited limestone, granite and porphyry – a mineral-rich alluvial soil of gravel and pebbles that gives the Granato its characteristic concentration and depth.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Teroldego, the indigenous grape variety of Trentino, from around four hectares of old pergola-trained vines in Mezzolombardo. Spontaneous fermentation in large open vats, followed by 15 months ageing in tonneau and a further 15 months bottle maturation before release. Limited production of approximately 20,000 bottles annually.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Braised beef, game ragout, ossobuco or aged mountain cheese from Trentino. Also an excellent choice with lamb leg with herb crust or mushroom risotto with truffle.
Special Features
The name „Granato“ refers to the pomegranate – a symbol of concentration and Mediterranean origin. With this wine, Foradori has initiated the renaissance of the Teroldego grape and proves that the variety is capable of far more than simple everyday wines. Recommended ageing potential: at least 5 years, preferably 10+.
