  • 🎨 Color: Golden yellow with bright reflections.
  • 👃 Aroma: Ripe peaches, mango, candied orange peel, tart notes of kumquats or bitter orange, spicy aromas of myrrh or frankincense, wet pebbles and a slight saltiness.
  • 👅 Taste: Fine, ripe tannins, minimalist fruit, high inner tension, full-bodied mouthfeel, good acidity, rich minerality, surprisingly lean with 13% alcohol.
  • 🎭 Character: Multi-layered, dense, complex, naturally much too young, speaks quietly of the future.
  • 🍽️ Food recommendations: Smoked tofu with sesame and wakame seaweed and yuzu ponzu, pike-perch fillet on creamy leek with mandarin oil and sesame, glazed sweetbreads on swede and vanilla puree.
  • Special features: Should be plunged upside down into the carafe and aerated for at least two hours, cellared for the future.

Nose

The 2015 Clos Saint Urban Rangen de Thann Riesling Grand Cru from Zind Humbrecht has a rich nose of ripe peaches, mango, candied orange and slightly tart notes reminiscent of kumquats or bitter orange. Spicy aromas of myrrh or frankincense hover over the heart. Everything is underpinned by wet pebbles and the impression of light saltiness. A wine that should be plunged headfirst into the carafe and aerated for at least two hours. Multilayered, dense, complex and of course much too young.

Mouth

On the palate, the wine directly lines the mouth with fine-grained, ripe tannin. With minimalist fruit, it seems sparse but has high internal tension with great vibration. Despite this disciplinarian start, it is generous with a full-bodied mouthfeel The acidity is wide-ranging and underpinned by rich minerality, and despite the warm year, it is surprisingly leanly accomplished with modest 13%. A wine that, after sufficient aeration, quietly tells of the future. With all curiosity, cellar it!
