Appearance
The intense golden yellow glow with subtle copper reflections fills the room.
Scent
This 2014 Riesling Clos Saint Urban Rangen de Thann shows its presence impressively and robustly in the olfactory impression. It seems reserved at first, until it has the chance to unfold its multi-layered opulence in a decanter. Notes of apricots, citrus fruits, orange marmalade, sweet blossoms and honey spoil the nose. Rustic and spicy notes of tree bark, shearling and dark, damp earth beautifully balance the sweet aromatic tones. A deep-rooted, cool-seeming minerality, accompanied by the characteristic smoky nuances, lingers majestically in the background. The fragrance alone is a multi-layered work of art.
Taste
On the palate, the 2014 Riesling Clos Saint Urban Rangen de Thann is a firework of yellow fruits, unstoppable salty minerality and precise acid notes that challenge the taste buds to a tongue dance. A Riesling that captivates you and doesn't let go mentally. It is powerful, complex and beautiful, but currently not intended for immediate consumption. It is best to store it for a few more years, then open it up and have the feeling of igniting fireworks.
Recommendation
For those who want to enjoy this wine right now, I strongly recommend decanting it over several hours and serving it in a sufficiently large wine glass. Several days of opening will give it greater expressiveness.
Food recommendations
Enjoy this wine as an accompaniment to grilled salmon with pesto and quinoa, quail wrapped in potato with foie gras, champagne sauce and root vegetables or a puff pastry pocket filled with smoked camembert and wild mushrooms.
