Wine Description for Condrieu „Le Tinal“ AOC 2023 500ml from Maison Stephan

Colour & Appearance
Luminous lemon yellow with golden and green reflections – a visual promise of freshness and concentration in equal measure.
Nose
Here the full splendour of Viognier reveals itself: apricots and peaches dominate, accompanied by mandarins, kumquats, mango and pineapple. These are joined by ripe pears, delicate violets and a hint of acacia honey. The spicy component brings fennel seeds, anise, coriander, liquorice and thyme into play – an aromatic cocktail of beguiling complexity.
Palate
Something extraordinary happens here: the wine is simultaneously full-bodied and crystalline, vibrant and powerful. Where typical Condrieu often tends towards breadth, Le Tinal displays razor-sharp precision. It appears almost weightless, saline and ethereal, without sacrificing any intensity. All the fruit and spice components from the nose return, but held in perfect balance.
Finish
Long, elegant and carried by a remarkable mineral freshness that lends the wine tension and depth.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from the commune of Vérin from the lieu-dit Le Tinal, a south/south-east facing site with granite and biotite soils. Old vines, organically farmed, provide the concentrated material for this exceptional Condrieu.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Viognier from old vines. Hand-harvested, spontaneous fermentation and over a year’s maturation in used barrels – a patient, respectful élevage that gives the terroir space to express itself.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Scallops with saffron sauce, langoustines with lemon butter, lobster or pan-fried turbot. Also a revelation with poultry in cream sauce, sweetbreads or creamy goat’s cheese.
Special Features
This Condrieu redefines the appellation: instead of opulent breadth, Maison Stephan demonstrates that Viognier is capable of ethereal elegance and crystalline precision. A wine of impressive stature and finesse – this has real class!
