Wine Description for Clos du Chêne Vert Monopole AOC 2019 by Charles Joguet

Colour & Appearance
Lightly transparent garnet red with youthful freshness, already announcing the elegance and finesse of this monopoly vineyard site wine in the glass.
Nose
Still closed and reserved, this young Cabernet Franc reveals its cool, aristocratic side. Initially chalky and mineral, with aeration ethereal and minty notes unfold. The aromatics then develop in a more floral direction with fine violet notes, blackcurrants and the green accents typical of Loire Cabernet Franc from leaves and stalks. A wine that is only just beginning its journey.
Palate
On the palate, the impressive depth of this Chinon reveals itself, even though it is still in its developmental stage. Fine and elegantly structured, with a noble character that sets it apart from the more hedonistic Clos de la Dioterie from the same vintage. This is the more intellectual, more aristocratic of the two monopoly vineyard sites – a Cabernet Franc of great class that deserves patience.
Terroir & Origin
The two-hectare monopoly vineyard site lies on the right bank of the Vienne, opposite the centre of Chinon, and extends to the top of a hillside. The southern exposure and steep slope ensure early ripening. The soil consists of clay, light gravel and deep-lying limestone. The vineyard is named after a massive oak tree, allegedly planted in the 12th century by monks from Bourgueil.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Cabernet Franc. Ten-day cool pre-fermentation at 10°C, followed by four-week maceration in wooden vats at a maximum of 21°C. Ageing of 15-16 months in French oak barrels (one-fifth renewed annually), followed by a further six months in tank for harmonisation.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Lamb rack with herb crust, venison loin, duck breast roasted pink, mushroom risotto with truffle or aged Comté.
Special Features
Monopoly vineyard site of Charles Joguet, one of the Loire’s most renowned producers. The 2019 is a vineyard site wine of great nobility that possesses at least 5-10 years of ageing potential.
