Wine Description for Clos du Chêne Vert Monopole AOC 2019 by Charles Joguet

Colour & Appearance
Luminous, slightly transparent garnet red with youthful brilliance – a Chinon that reveals its provenance and state of maturity visually.
Nose
This wine still shows itself reserved and closed, almost shy in its youth. The nose begins chalky and cool, with pronounced minty and ethereal notes. With air, a floral dimension unfolds: delicate violets, fresh blackcurrants along with their leaves and stems – the characteristic green side of Cabernet Franc in its noblest form.
Palate
On the palate, the true nature of this wine reveals itself: a depth that is only beginning to unfold. Fine and elegantly structured, with noble restraint. This is Cabernet Franc for the patient – a wine in the making, which already hints at its aristocratic class, but still needs years to show its full potential.
Terroir & Origin
The Clos du Chêne Vert lies on the right bank of the Vienne, named after a monumental oak tree from the 12th century. The two-hectare, steep vineyard site with south-facing exposure benefits from soils of clay, gravel and deep limestone. The exposed location makes it the earliest harvest site of the estate.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Cabernet Franc, vinified with the greatest care: ten days of cool pre-fermentation at 10°C, four weeks of maceration in wooden vats at a maximum of 21°C. Maturation for 15-16 months in French oak (20% new barrels), followed by six months of tank storage for harmonisation.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Game dishes, venison loin, roasted pigeon, duck breast or vegetarian with mushroom risotto and aged hard cheeses.
Special Characteristics
This is the nobler, more aristocratic of Joguet’s two monopoly vineyard sites – less hedonistic than the Clos de la Dioterie, but with greater ageing potential and more elegant structure. A Chinon for connoisseurs with patience.
