Wine Description for Les Petites Roches blanc AOC 2024 from Charles Joguet

Character
A surprising excursion into the world of Chenin Blanc from a winemaker primarily renowned for his Chinon red wines. Charles Joguet, an icon of the Loire, demonstrates his versatility here. Les Petites Roches blanc presents itself as a lively, mineral white wine with the typical tension between fruit and acidity that distinguishes great Chenin Blanc. At 12.5% Vol., the wine remains elegant and eminently drinkable without sacrificing expressiveness.
Terroir & Origin
Domaine Charles Joguet is situated in the heart of Chinon, where the Loire flows through gentle hills and tuffeau plateaux. The „Petites Roches“ – small stones – in the name refer to the flinty soils that lend Chenin Blanc its characteristic minerality. The cool, Atlantic-influenced climate of the Loire ensures a long ripening period and preserves the vibrant acidity structure that makes these wines so age-worthy and compelling.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Chenin Blanc is the great white grape variety of the Loire, versatile and expressive. It ripens late, developing a complex aromatic spectrum from green apple through pear to honey and beeswax with extended ageing. Vinification at Joguet presumably follows the estate’s principles: respectful treatment of the fruit, restrained use of oak to preserve the purity of the terroir. The 2024 vintage promises freshness and drinkability.
Food Pairing Suggestions
An ideal companion to Loire goat’s cheese such as Sainte-Maure or Crottin de Chavignol. Excellent with river fish, scallops or oysters. The acidity structure harmonises perfectly with poultry in cream sauce, quiche or asparagus. Also an exciting choice with Asian cuisine featuring moderate spice levels.
