Wine description for Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Vigna Nastagio 2019 from Col d'Orcia

Character
The Vigna Nastagio is one of the most prestigious single vineyards in Col d'Orcia and delivers a Brunello of exceptional concentration and elegance. This wine from the outstanding 2019 vintage combines Power and finesse in remarkable balance. Col d'Orcia is one of the most traditional producers in Montalcino and has been cultivating some of the best vineyards south of the town for decades, where Volcanic soils and maritime influences provide for particular complexity.
Terroir & origin
The Vigna Nastagio is located at an altitude of around 450 metres on the south-western slopes of Montalcino, where cooler temperatures and good ventilation favour the long ripening phase of the Sangiovese grapes. The Galestro-containing soils with clay and tufa give the wine its characteristic minerality and structure. The 2019 vintage is considered to be excellent in Tuscany - a warm, dry year with ideal conditions for fully ripe, healthy grapes, which concentrated wines with ripe fruit and a firm tannin structure produced.
Grape variety & vinification
Brunello di Montalcino is produced exclusively from Sangiovese Grosso the local variety of this noble Tuscan grape. The grapes for Vigna Nastagio come from old vines and undergo a Traditional vinification with long maceration. The ageing process takes place over at least two years in large oak barrels (botti), as required by DOCG regulations, followed by further ageing in the bottle. This classic method preserves the Varietal cherry fruit, earthy notes and firm tannins, for which great Brunello is known.
Food pairing suggestions
A wine of this stature demands correspondingly powerful dishes: Bistecca alla Fiorentina, Braised wild boar or Pappardelle with hare ragout are classic Tuscan accompaniments. Also to matured pecorino or Parmigiano Reggiano the Brunello unfolds its full complexity. We recommend a Decantation of at least one hour before enjoyment.
