Wine Description for Il Guercio IGT 2023 by Tenuta di Carleone

Colour & Appearance
Translucent, luminous cherry red – the transparency already reveals the altitude and the unfiltered, artisanal vinification.
Nose
Intoxicating and multi-layered: ripe figs and sweet cherries meld with wild raspberries and delicate elderflower. The Mediterranean maquis reveals itself in ethereal notes of rosemary, thyme and juniper, rounded off by a fascinating nuance of pickled rose petals. An aromatic profile that immediately seduces.
Palate
Like velvet and silk – this Sangiovese from 650 metres altitude possesses a remarkable texture that invites you to sink in. The vibrant acidity dances elegantly with the fruit sweetness and creates that effortless drinkability one hopes for from an authentic Tuscan country wine. No woody barrel notes to distract – only pure, unadulterated Sangiovese fruit.
Finish
Medium-length with lingering cherry notes and a hint of Mediterranean herbs that fade gracefully.
Terroir & Origin
From an old, terraced vineyard near Lamole at a remarkable 650 metres altitude. This elevation bestows upon the wine its cool elegance, vibrant acidity and aromatic precision – qualities that would be difficult to achieve in warmer Tuscan vineyard sites.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Sangiovese, vinified in the old-fashioned way: foot treading, spontaneous fermentation and ageing in cement tanks. The deliberate eschewing of wooden barrels allows fruit and terroir to speak unadorned – a homage to authenticity.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A fantastic food companion for Pasta al Ragù, grilled vegetables, Pecorino cheese, Saltimbocca or mushroom risotto. Its versatility makes it the ideal accompaniment to Tuscan cuisine.
Special Features
Named after Sean O’Callaghan’s nickname „Il Guercio“ – a wine that places craftsmanship and terroir centre stage. Unfiltered, unpretentious, immediate.
