Tasting Note

Rémi Jobard is a recognised new-schooler in Meursault. For around 30 years, only organic fertilisers have been used, followed by organic certification in 2008. Jobard’s guiding principle is Meursault’s limestone soils, which he seeks to make sing through gentle ageing. Instead of small 228-litre barriques, Jobard uses 600-litre Stockinger casks. The wood is not used for the sake of the oak itself, but for the slow exchange of oxygen. This ageing process results in crystallinely polished wines with profound minerality and fine texture.

The Bourgogne Côte d’Or category is a newly introduced appellation designation. It restricts the production zone for these wines to the core area of the Côte d’Or. The sites for this wine all come from vineyards bordering Meursault, two of which are located directly below the 1er Cru site Charmes.

Colour:

Medium straw yellow with green reflections.

Nose:

The 2022 Bourgogne Côte d’Or blanc Vieilles Vignes by Rémi Jobard performs on the green-yellow side on the nose. Delicately citrusy, it is reminiscent of lemon oil, lemon blossom and lemon balm, accompanied by Granny Smith—more the peel than the flesh—and a little lime zest. Overall impression of crystalline clarity and transparency.

Palate:

Crystal clear and polished on the attack with a vibrant nerve of acidity and almost powdery, fine phenolics that give it additional drive on the palate. Despite all its finesse and crystalline nature, the power of the 2022 vintage is evident. Punchy with high intensity and a profound bass tone, it pulsates with maximum vibration into a salty, cool finish.

Food Pairings
