Wine Description for Barolo DOCG Monvigliero 2021 1500ml Magnum by Vietti

Colour & Appearance
Pale, luminous cherry red with impressive transparency – classic Nebbiolo ruby, which already announces the elegance of this cru in the glass.
Nose
Captivating complexity and perfect finesse. Floral notes meld with ripe cherry and a subtle hint of dark chocolate. These are joined by orange zest, lemon pith and a bouquet of garden herbs – an aromatic complexity that already promises drinking pleasure, yet also hints at enormous ageing potential.
Palate
Here the true greatness of the Monvigliero 2021 reveals itself. The elegance of the nose continues on the palate and combines with remarkable depth. The high proportion of 60% whole berries – possible because the stems ripen perfectly in this vineyard site – gives the wine a flawless structure. The fine, chalky tannin is silky in texture, never intrusive. A delicate sweetness in the pale red fruit is underpinned by darker berry notes. Energetic, persistent and in perfect balance.
Finish
Long, precise and of impressive clarity. The mineral component of the terroir reveals itself in the finale with fine salinity and lingering freshness.
Terroir & Origin
The Monvigliero is considered Verduno’s most significant cru and ranks among the most valuable vineyard sites in the entire Barolo region. At approximately 240 metres elevation in a south/south-westerly aspect, 44-year-old vines thrive on calcareous and clay-rich soil with Sant’Agata marl – a terroir that unites structure and elegance.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Nebbiolo, harvested on 30 September 2021. Three to four days cold maceration, 60% whole berries, 20 days maceration in stainless steel with exclusive submerged cap management. Malolactic fermentation in used barriques, followed by 24 months ageing in large wooden vessels.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Brasato al Barolo, Tajarin with truffle, Calf’s sweetbreads, Duck breast with mushrooms, aged Parmigiano Reggiano or Castelmagno.
Special Features
In the impressive magnum bottle (1500ml), which provides the wine with optimal ageing conditions. The 2021 vintage already shows accessible elegance whilst possessing enormous ageing potential of 20+ years.
