Wine Description for Barbaresco DOCG Rabajà Riserva 2019 by Vietti

Colour & Appearance
Pale, luminous cherry red with remarkable transparency – typical of Nebbiolo in its noblest expression. In the glass, the characteristic clarity of a great Barbaresco reveals itself.
Nose
An enchanting aromatic spectrum that impressively reflects the complexity of the Rabajà vineyard site. Flowers and herbs alternate with blonde tobacco and blood orange peel. These are joined by a slightly reductive blackcurrant note, ripe cherries and cherry stones, a touch of undergrowth, damp earth and fresh mint. An aromatic profile of remarkable complexity.
Palate
Youthfully powerful and exuberant, this Riserva presents itself with medium-grained tannins and a precise acidity flow. The wine displays a fascinating saline minerality and comes across as pressing, tonic and energetic. At its core lies a sweet fruit kernel, framed by notes of flint and subtle oak spice. The balance between power and finesse is impressive.
Finish
Long, persistent and sustainably captivating. The saline minerality and fine tannin structure remain present on the palate for minutes.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from the prestigious single vineyard site Rabajà in Barbaresco. The calcareous, clay-rich soil with south/south-west exposure between 235 and 315 metres altitude shapes the mineral character. The vines, averaging 51 years old (Guyot training, 5,200 vines/hectare), yield concentrated, expressive grapes.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Nebbiolo. Three-week maceration in stainless steel with cold maceration before and after fermentation. Malolactic fermentation in used barrique, followed by approximately 30 months ageing in large oak casks – a classical vinification that gives terroir room to express itself.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Brasato al Barolo, Ossobuco alla Milanese, truffle risotto, aged Parmigiano Reggiano, braised game dishes or duck breast with porcini mushrooms.
Special Features
Vietti’s debut as a Riserva from the Rabajà vineyard site – a wine with enormous ageing potential that will unfold its full complexity in the years to come.
